Blog #1

The first step in my 20% project plan was to gather all the materials I would need. I did not end up going to Michael's yet, instead I was gifted some supplies and I found some string, beads and other bracelet making materials throughout my house. I am still not sure if I will have enough to reach my goal of 10-12 bracelets so, I may need to make a trip to Michael's in the future.

The next step was to learn how to actually make the bracelets. In the end, I would like to make both string and beaded bracelets but, I decided to just start with clay beads as I thought it would be easier. I do have a little bit of experience with this but it has been a while so I needed a refresher. Luckily, my friend has a small business where she creates clay bead bracelets and sells them at craft shows. I reached out to her in hopes she could help me with my project, and she did! It didn't take too long for it all to come back to me.

Currently, I have started to work on making the bracelets, but I only have a couple done at the moment. My bracelets I have made up already have meaning to them whether it is through the color or words. I tried to use a lot of pink and yellow representing breast/pediatric cancer, and add inspirational words. My goal coming up is to learn how to make string bracelets in order to add variety to my shop.

About the Creator

Hi, my name is Kate Dobrowolski, I am 17 years old, and a senior at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. I'm passionate about doing my best in school and finding creative ways to express myself, whether that's through writing, art, or other hobbies. Outside of class, I like to relax by hanging out with friends and playing/ watching sports. I am a captain on our varsity field hockey team and a manager for the softball team.

My english teacher has tasked me with creating a project that we will work on for 20% of the entire semester. For my project, I decided to make bracelets that represent cancer and sell them at a sale. Half of the proceeds will go to Alex's Lemonade Stand, and the other half will go to Greta's Dream Crazy Foundation in hopes of funding research to find a cure for cancer. This past June, I lost one of my friends and coaches due to this terrible disease so this is just one thing I'm doing to keep their legacy alive.
